Who won? Why and How?

My side, the no smokers one, won because we had facts to support our statements and we kept on topic and didn't talk about random things just for the sake of arguing.

Questions, Questions

Can an employer choose not to hire you because you are a smoker?
If it conflicts with your job like if you are taking smoke breaks too often and not getting work done, or if it damages the image of the company like if you were hired to talk to people about the dangers of smoking and then you go out and smoke then it is ok if they don't want to hire you but if they are just personally against smokers then it isn't justified and it's not right.

Can an employer choose not to hire you because you are obese?
It's the same, because an employer cannot hire someone who cannot complete work requirements so if your weight is an issue and it hinders you from completing your job then they shouldn't hire you. If they are just trying to make everyone look a certain way because they made a judgement call that thinner people work better than overweight people and it is just their opinion then it isn't right not to hire someone.

What went wrong?

Problems we had yesterday were that they don't give you that type of information online, so we couldn't check if they were hireing. Another problem was that we didn't know wich ones other people had so we couldn't all call the same place like 3 times, also we couldn't use our phones or we would get in trouble.

What can we learn from the city job fair?

We learned that we need to inform the people that will be attending about what to expect from the job fair and that they may need to apply online. We also need to have businesses that are hiring. We also need to keep people coming so that the employees don't feel like they are wasting their time and start taking breaks or leave early.

EP Job Fair

This wednesday there was a job fair and 8,200 people had been there by 5 p.m., as compared to the 5,674 people who went last year. Workforce Solutions said they expected lots of people to go because of the high unemployment rate and the high rate of job positions available.

New Seating Arrangement

With this seating arrangement I will get to talk to people who I usually don't talk to in this class and maybe they can ask me question on stuff when they have trouble or I can ask them for their opinions on my work and we can become better together.

Skills Assessment

My strengths in the work-place would be that I am good at desktop publishing and can make something look presentable. I can also plan ahead and use my time wisely. I know how to behave in the work-place and in formal situations.

My weaknesses are that I don't type fast enough or with enough accuracy. If I was applying for a job it would be my first job so I guess a weakness can be that I don't have experience. Another weakness is that I'm not very organized so I can keep track of stuff but it has to be spread out everywhere and I am one of those people who micro-manage things and end up saying, "Stop. I'll do it."

Thank-you Letter

Anthony Career Expo Participants,
I would like to thank you for attending the career expo and hope that you will attend again if there are other career fairs in the future. I hope you had fun and that the experience was worthwhile to you because it meant a lot to our school. If you have any suggestions for the future, please feel free to contact us via phone or e-mail. I know this event was pulled together fairly quickly, and wish to thank you for your patience and commitment to the event.

                                                                                                  Sincerely,
                                                                                                            NR

Event List Choices

I would like to participate in the  (30) Administrative Support Team: The team will function as an office staff to produce a variety of business documents. I think it would be good because people in class are creative and can learn fast and apply what they know in a unique way.

Individually I would like to participate in (31) Prepared Speaking: To provide the student an opportunity to demonstrate communication skills in securing, arranging, organizing, and orally
presenting information. I think I would be good for this because I am more confident when I know what I am talking about.

What is BPA about?

I think BPA is about learning skills you need in the business world, from learning computer skills to learning how to present ourselves. BPA has competitions on several of these skills as well as a conference.

Event Evaluation

The Career Expo went well because we had a good turnout of businesses and people. It also went well because some student started participating and talking to people at tables. The Career Expo was good because I think it might have attracted more people to come to Parent Teacher Conferences.

Some bad things about the career expo were that students didn't know if they could approach tables. The people who came were also a little bored because it was a bit slow in the begining and they began talking on their cell phones. Another bad thing was that we didn't have a big variety of businesses.

Things I would have done differently is make a list for people to call instead of having them find numbers. I also would have started calling people sooner. I would have also asked more people what kinds of businesses they wanted.

Concerns

I'm concerned because people don't call us back, and I feel we won't have enough people. I'm also concerned because we still need to take care of lots of other things like food, and other things we wanted to have but might not be a possibility now.

I looked for numbers of realtors
Looked for numbers of law firms
Every number we found said they were busy pretty much. it is dissapointing.
I looked for psychologists numbers
I will call back the people I called yesterday after school because they both said to call back today when I called yesterday.

Trouble!

Why are businesses not saying yes when we call? I think that businesses feel like it's a bit unorganized and don't want to deal with it because we feel a bit overwhelmed ourselves. I also think its because we should have started sooner because people have lots of junkmail and it takes a while to sort through it.

What Have I Learned? What Has Changed? (from the phone calls)

I have learned how to speak better and now i don't stutter so much when I talk on the phone. I have also learned that making cold calls is hard and that sometimes people aren't so nice. I have also learned that when you are confident, people respond to you more.
What has changed is my way of speaking and trying to sound more confident. I have also changed what I say because if I get used to saying something then the speed gets faster and people don't understand you just like how some people on the phone sound when they introduce themselves.

Brainstorming Ideas

We might be able to create some kind of web page for the library so that students can review books for others to read.
Another problem is the lunch lines although they were better on Friday.
We could also set up a student store for pencils and such, or a website or blog for a local business.
These are just some ideas that were first to pop into my head.
